Slacker

Summer is over. Waaaaaay over. No excuses for the long gap since my last post. Fall is in full force. Winter is starting to throw it's weight around. Hopefully it will be a whizz banger of a season.

Here's a few things that have happened lately just to get this ball rolling:

I've been posting a lot of stuff on instagram which is part of the reason the blog has suffered. Poor little blog. Boo fucking hoo. Anyway, follow me for lots of new photos: @colinadair

Next up is the DC Snowboarding movie MUST BE NICE which was released last month. Check it out on iTunes. Its a good time. There is also a interview with me on PUSH.ca and some behind the scenes photos about making and shooting the movie last winter.

Another interview I did for Snowboarder Magazine is up on their site now. This is part of their Lens Crafters series and is more of a general overview about my photography, life and beard.

And last but certainly not least is the new issue or Later. mag is now out. It's another step forward in what will hopefully a long strange journey. It's available in shops and retailers across Canada as well as up and down both coasts of the US of A. A full list of where you can find it will be on the site anyday. It will also be available at most Chapters/Indigo stores starting next week. Or you can subscribe online and have it delivered to your door.

Every Day Thing

Colin Adair - Friday, August 19, 2011

Here is a great little video about a guy who just decided to go for it. Inspiration for anyone who has an idea or a dream they want to fulfill.

"I know it looks like I don't do much but it actually is quite a busy day."

Those are some wise words that I can really relate to.

I'm off to New Zealand on Sunday for two weeks to shoot the new DC Snowboards catalog so I'll try to post some interesting stuff...............

Must Be Nice!

Colin Adair - Monday, July 11, 2011
It's been a while since I posted anything and I only have summer to blame. Lots of roadtrips and summer adventures have kept me out of doors and away from the computer. When I saw this slideshow it made me realize I wasn't spending enough time outdoors this summer!

If only we could all jump in a camper van and hit the road for almost 3 months. I know, I know, I can't complain because I get to travel all over but when I see stuff like this I get really envious and really stoked at the same time.

Chris Burkhard is an amazing photographer. Last year he won the Red Bull Illume photo contest. His shot was chosen best overall photo. There were close to 25,000 photos entered. No big deal.

Check out his slideshow about a trip he did for 50 days up and down the west coast. My only complaint is that it's too short!

Cold Blooded

Colin Adair - Saturday, May 14, 2011
It's no secret that I love surfing. This morning I found a great post that caught my eye on Magic Seaweed. Don't just watch the video. Read the article as well, it's great. However, the opening shot in the video is one of best I've seen. A heavy slab shot from the water.

I can really relate to the general idea of the article about being cold all the time and battling whatever weather winter throws our way. Having just spent the last 7 months standing around in the snow chasing winter all over the place I was reminded of how amazing it can be when all the conditions come together for the perfect moments.

Hopefully there will be a lot of good surf this summer up here in Canada and I can bring you some new images of what the west coast summer surf has to offer.

Summer Longing

Colin Adair - Saturday, April 09, 2011
It's a cold, overcast west coast day and the snowboard season is winding down. That's not to say there isn't a lot left to do this winter or that the season is over. On the contrary, there are hopefully a lot more sunny days on the mountain left this month as well as some late spring park shoots. But for the moment I am enjoying some downtime at home thinking about summer.

What got me started on this tangent is a great blog and website by a guy named Morgan Maassen. I'm not sure exactly how old he is but from what I can tell he's one of these younger phenom type shooters along the same lines as my fellow snow lensmen Cole Barash. Both of these guys have amazing talent, drive and vision. But it was Morgan's blog and this little video he posted about Scott Shuman, aka "The Satorialist". Last summer I did a shoot for KNOW?Mag in which I was asked to emulate (not copy!) this style of shooting. This video reminded me of that shoot and summer time.

It's definitely worth watching this video to see what he has to say about his blog, his photography, how he got started etc. The video is shot really well and is part of a series called Visual Life from Intel.

As I was thinking about summer I realized how I have been planning on ramping up my blog content for some time now. This summer I hope to accomplish this goal and bring you much more information from the photography and action sports world. This will hopefully include interviews and portfolios from some of my favourite photographers, behind the scenes stuff and some regular feature type content. If you have any suggestions, ideas or proposals, please send them to me via email: info@colinadair.com

The Dark Side

Colin Adair - Sunday, August 22, 2010
Here's an insane video I found over on Bogus Blog but you might want to click the link so you can watch it a little bigger and read a bit about it on Mpora.

Mickey Smith really sums up the feeling and love/hate relationship of being an action sports photographer. He is a waterman from Ireland but I'll let him speak for me with this eloquent and beautifully shot short.

Surf and Destroy

Colin Adair - Monday, July 19, 2010
I was in California all last week working with DC on some image selection and ad campaign stuff. There wasn't really much time to shoot photos but I was lucky enough to get some very small but fun waves.  And then this morning I came across this surf/skate inspired little video from Animal Collective, a band I like to listen to when I'm working on photos or video projects.

I also came across this video from Broken Social Scene via the Timebomb newsletter (originally posted on Pitchfork). It's very politically charged and visually chaotic and matches the song really well. The riot footage from the recent G20 in my hometown of Toronto is really intense and matched with some random pop culture and funny clips. Definitely worth a look (even if you're not a fan of BSS).

Babe of the week (not a regular feature!)

This blog has now reached an all time low.........not only am I posting "teenbeat" type schlock but I'm also exploiting the fairer sex for my own personal gain.

There's a surfer out there named Alana Blanchard. Let's just say she's easy on the eyes. The problem is she can also surf really well. Really well. And I won't say she surfs well "for a girl" either. She rips plain and simple. She is part of the SB Surfboards team which is run by a guy named Steve Boysen who is a friend of my friend down in Southern California. I have one of these boards and it is really good. I'm about to order a new one and if you want an insane board for an amazing price you should call them up.

This video was originally produced by Transworld Surf and it's pretty cheesy but there is a funny moment at the end about a fat red head kid............."it funny cause he fat" - leave a comment and tell me where that quote came from and I'll be stoked to know someone is reading this shit.......
