Storm Chasing

Colin Adair - Monday, April 05, 2010
On my way to Tahoe, CA today for a really last minute attempt to hit some sunny weather down there and get out of the clouds in Whistler for a few days..........

Here's a few photos from my last trip, up to Haines AK, where it was cloudy almost the entire 2 plus weeks we were there. More from Haines to follow.

All are shot on 120 film with my Hasselblad.

More Press for me.......what a sloot!

I guess I should have a birthday more often because I just got another link to some coverage about me from my old buddy Matt Houghton at Push.ca

He interviewed me about my new site a while back but forgot to post it. So this was a nice little birthday surprise.

I have to go out now......if I can fit my huge inflated head through the door still.........

Got Linked

Colin Adair - Monday, March 29, 2010
I received a message from a friend today that a photo of mine was posted on a site called creativefan.com.

It's a gallery of images from 30 photographers from around the world. They somehow found me and used a photo I took of Wille Yli Luoma in 2008. I really like this photo and it was never used in print which bummed me out cause I thought the light and snow flying in the air really made for a "dynamic" image (that's the word that gets thrown around a lot in some circles. "We need something dynamic", "What we are looking for is a dynamic image", "Have you got anything "dynamic"..........love that word).

Here's the link, have a look, there are some crazy photos. There is one questionable Rollerblading photo which almost made me want to have my shot removed but I can overlook that one because of the global context of the images and the dude in the shot looks like he is totally grooving to some disco music or super fast Euro techno. Can't argue with that.

Psst. Hey Buddy, wanna buy a print? Cheap?

Colin Adair - Friday, March 26, 2010
A client of mine recently sent me a message saying that the print he had purchased arrived damaged and was not worth framing in it's current state. Thanks Canada Post! They somehow managed to break a 1/2" thick cardboard tube and bend the print leaving big crease marks on the canvas.

He just sent it back to me and I though "WTF am I going to do with this thing?". My initial thought was to throw it up on my wall but then I figured I'd offer if up for sale here at a very discounted rate to anyone that just isn't that picky and wants to fill a large wall space.

The 46 x 54" canvas print is of the photo below. A detail of the damage is also included below FYI. Make me an offer and maybe you'll be the proud owner this baby. I sell this type of print for over 500$ normally. But don't worry about insulting my artistic integrity with lowball offers...........email if you're interested.

March Radness

Colin Adair - Thursday, March 25, 2010
It's been a busy couple of months and the blog loggin' has been replaced by lots of travel and a expanding photo library.

In February I did a 10 day trip to Utah to shoot with the DC snowboard team X Games champions Torstein Horgmo (gold in 2008) and Halldor Helgason (gold in 2010). Halldor had just won the X Games big air while Torstein came second in big air and fourth in slopestyle. The rest of the DC team came down to the MTN LAB to shoot a commercial with DC Films and do some product development sessions. After that I headed home to Vancouver for some downtime and was able to enjoy some Olympic madness. Next thing I knew I was on a series of flights to Haines Alaska, a small fishing town on the coast with some serious mountains and some serious weather (see "SKUNKED" below). We were not able to shoot much in the mountains due to a storm cycle that just would not quit. A total bummer but that's the gamble we take in this game. Somehow we managed to fly out of there on a six seater in a snowstorm and I made it home for a day before hitting a solid high pressure with great snow in Pemberton for 4 days.

It's been a whirlwind but I'm home for a strecth now and I have a lot of shots to share with you. Keep coming back because I'll be posting stuff regularly now until the next trip to whoknowswhere.

Here's some film from Utah, as you can see things can get a little weird on the road:

SKUNKED!

Colin Adair - Sunday, March 14, 2010
On my way back home. Fought the good fight in Haines, Alaska but mother nature prevailed this time. Maybe next year.........

Here are a few shots of some of the peaks that popped out one afternoon when it was too windy too fly.

SIDE TRACKED!

Colin Adair - Thursday, March 04, 2010
I've been on the road for the last 25 out of 30 days so haven't been keeping up to date on the blog. Sorry. The Caption Contest is now closed and I'll announce the winner in the coming days. I'm in Alaska now with some serious internet and phone issues so posting will be random for the next couple weeks.

Here's a photo from the tiny plane we flew in to get here. The pilot was talking on his cell phone the whole time and eating trail mix. Only in Alaska.

Welcome to the first installment of the Craption contest. I want to see what kind of crap you guys can come up with! The winner, as chosen by me and a few very trusted comrades, will win a 16 x 20 print of their choice from 'The Store' or almost any of the other photos on the site.

Here's what you do:

2. Think hard.
3. Think real hard.
4. Write a caption in the comment section below.

Red Balls!

Colin Adair - Tuesday, February 02, 2010
Red Bull Illume  http://www.redbullillume.com/insight/about.html

We all love Red Bull don't we?? Jagr Bombs. Vodka Red Bull. Massive marketing budgets well spent on cool events and action sports. Crushed Ice anyone?? One of the coolest events out there.

Well, the Red Bull illume photo contest is back. After a multi year absence, it's back. What is it?? Basically, it's an open call for photos in categories ranging from Culture to New Creativity to Sequences to Illumination. And it's action sports only so back off Sports Illustrated. Although the list of "sports" is long (Running?? Mountainboarding?? Seriously??), the bulk of the photography is coming from snowsports, surfing, skateboarding, biking (BMX, Moto and Mountain), Climbing etc..........

Have a look at their website and the gallery of images that were selected as finalists in 2007. All of these photos were made into huge lightboards and displayed at various locations around the world culminating in the final show where one single winner was chosen and given a huge prize (a photo shoot of his/her choice in an exotic location with the Red Bull athletes of their choice).

Here are a few of the shots I have entered. To date, almost 6000 photos have been entered by almost 2500 photographers. Entry deadline is Feb 28. Winners will be announced in May so hopefully I'll be following this up with news that I was selected. Cross your toes.

Culture category.......

Wings category.........

New Creativity category...........

Playground category.........

Sequence category............

Saska-cherry!

Colin Adair - Thursday, January 28, 2010
I made my first ever trip to Saskatchewan a few weeks ago for Christmas with my girlfriend to 'meet the parents'. It was really cold and really flat. Not what I'm used to on the west coast.

I took some photos. I look forward to going back in the summer time and shooting some more photos in color this time.
