Hot off the Press

Colin Adair - Sunday, September 05, 2010
The new issue of Transworld Snowboarding will be hitting the newsstands any day now if you don't already have a copy. My old buddy Devun Walsh has landed himself on the cover once again. This is no small feat in this day and age with the amount of photos being produced out there every season. Unfortunately these are not my photos. I was on another trip with other DC riders so Scott Serfas stepped in and got the shots. Haven't seen a sequence on a cover since Chris Dufficy was on the cover of Snowboarder Magazine a while back. Pretty cool to see. This is a pretty popular jump north of Whistler and has seen a lot of action over the years. I shot Iikka Backstrom's ad for DC here last winter and also got a great sequence of Devun doing a cab 3 that day.

I was thrown a few bones in this issue as well in the article about the new Transworld movie "In Color".

The Dark Side

Colin Adair - Sunday, August 22, 2010
Here's an insane video I found over on Bogus Blog but you might want to click the link so you can watch it a little bigger and read a bit about it on Mpora.

Mickey Smith really sums up the feeling and love/hate relationship of being an action sports photographer. He is a waterman from Ireland but I'll let him speak for me with this eloquent and beautifully shot short.

Snow Media Heating Up

Colin Adair - Wednesday, July 21, 2010
It must be the dog days of summer because the snowboard media are starting to crank out their summer issues, reports, posts, updates etc...........I've got two bits of work out there right now, both online which is something to consider these days because more and more of my work ends up online. I see this as a good thing because it is searchable, easily accessible and generally it looks great on a computer screen.

First off is a small update about DC team ride Iikka Backstrom with my photos. It's on a site called the ESPN Industry Insider Report.

Next we have pretty big portfolio of my work on the SNOWBOARDMag website. There's a short interview and some new photos mixed in with some old stuff that you might have seen. They wanted a variety of my snow and other work so there you go.........

Damn it feels good to be a Gangster

Colin Adair - Monday, June 28, 2010
Well it appears I have really reached the big time. I have been published on the biggest site in snowboarding, Helgasons.com. I could not be more honored by this great accomplishment.

Head on over and check out the photos posted from a trip I did with Halldor and Eiki Helgason in Utah this past winter. If you've never seen their site have a look around and you will be entertained and horrified all at the same time..............warning, this site is not for the faint of heart.

Foccer

Colin Adair - Tuesday, June 22, 2010
Football. Soccer. Whatever you call it, it's taking over right now and it's only gonna get better.........or worse depending on your point of view.

Argentina is looking good and I'm watching them now playing Greece. I spent some time in Argentina last summer on a DC Snowboards shoot and really enjoyed it. I definitely connected with their love of red wine and red meat. I'm not the most educated fan but I'll just make them my pick. Maradona at the helm.......

Here's a photo from the last world cup. I was in Toronto for part of it and that city was going crazy. The cultural melting pot had boiled over and spewed it's contents all over the streets.

Photo Auction for Haiti

Colin Adair - Wednesday, May 19, 2010
I just saw a post about this over on A Photo Editor:

Art for Haiti starts today and it looks amazing. From now until June 17 you can bid on amazing photography by some great photographers. Not sure how they missed including me on this. I usually get invited to every "give us your art for free so we can sell it" show. But it's for a good cause so I'm not gonna get my tighty whities in a knot over it.

There are some amazing photos up for grabs and starting bids of 250$ are a bargain. There are photos for all tastes (or lack thereof) but I found one in particular that will interest readers of this blog.

Colin Mckay by Mike Blabac, a fellow DC Shoe Co. shooter and an insane photographer:

Throw out a bid even if you don't have the $. The people in Haiti have way less than you. At the minimum it will help jack up the price for the next bidder who has $ and make the photographer feel better about themselves.

Surf's Up! But damn it's cold!

Colin Adair - Tuesday, May 11, 2010
From the website of Jeremy Koreski:

As I get ready to head to Costa Rica in two weeks all I can think about is surfing, waves, the beach, beer.............

Surfing in Canada involves serious commitment and a major tolerance for the cold. When it comes to surf photography in Canada there is one name that stands way out on top. Jeremy Koreski. As much as he probably hates the term, he is 'The Man'.

Last month Jeremy participated in the Pro Photographer Showdown in Whistler during the World Ski and Snowboard festival. It's a slideshow competition featuring the worlds best action sports photographers. They each get 9 minutes to show their life's work set to music. It is an insane event. Jeremy's show can be seen on his blog HERE. Jeremy has a unique vision and style based around his upbringing on the west coast and the surf culture that exists on Vancouver Island.

In the Red

Colin Adair - Monday, May 10, 2010
Back from California. Checking emails etc.........a bunch of good time wasting stuff to check out online.....

The 2010 Red Bull Illume contest has posted a gallery of this years entries. 4000 + photographers entered over 20 000 photos in total. You can check out the random and anonymous rotating gallery here

I spent at least 15 minutes checking it out and only saw 3 of the 20 or so photos I entered. The quality, variety and creativity of the photos is ridiculous. Snowboarding, Skateboarding, Surfing, Skiing, Biking, Motocross etc........if you really have some spare time or are doing something tedious make sure to click the full screen view and just sit back and watch the show (it's a bit slow to render the photos in full screen but worth the wait)........here's a still shot last spring which ran as a sequence for a DC ad that I entered into the Sequence category.

Road Trip II

Colin Adair - Monday, May 03, 2010
As promised, more photos from another road trip. This trip took place last year at this time. I drove from Vancouver BC and connected to the Pacific Coast Highway 101 through Washington and Oregon and then cut over to Mammoth Lakes CA. From there I went down to Encinitas CA and home back up the PCH 101 where I had left it on the way down. The whole trip was about 3 weeks. I have always wanted to do that drive and take my time to shoot whatever I saw and felt was worthy. After the first day I had to really pick and choose my options because I could have stopped every five minutes to shoot something cool. I would have run out of film and the trip would have taken 3 months.

Edit or Forget it

Colin Adair - Monday, April 26, 2010
As the edit continues of my winter 2010 photos I find new gems that I had forgotten about. I can't post any new action stuff or even most of the lifestyle stuff before they go to print so this is what you get.

The location where this photo is taken in some 50 km's into the backcountry near Whistler. I have never seen a flock of birds this big anywhere in the backcountry ever. Sure, a few lone scavengers here and there.  The odd fox or coyote. Even saw a wolverine once. But this many birds so far back in the middle of nowhere? Who knows where they were going or where they were coming from? There is nothing in the way of food for birds anywhere near by, just snow, rocks and evergreen trees. Unless birds eat evergreen trees? How long would it take them to fly 50 km's anyway?

Regardless, they came and went faster than you could say "Damn look at all them birds! Maybe I should take a picture of all them birds, what are they doing way back here in the middle of nowheres?". Luckily I had my camera out and ready like a seasoned professional.
