2012 SNOWBOARD Year in the RearView

Colin Adair - Friday, February 01, 2013
It's that time of year again folks! My annual trip down memory lane put to music and displayed in HD. Enjoy.

2012 SNOWBOARD Year In The RearView from colinadair on Vimeo.

Here is a slideshow of photos from my winter of 2012 shooting with the DC snowboard team. It was a great season and we filmed a video called "Must be Nice" so go watch it!

2013 is shaping up well as we enter into the YEAR OF THE DRAGON. Dragon happens to be my middle name and I have a huge fire breathing dragon head tattooed over my whole back so I'm stoked. The Year of the Dragon also represents innovation and development which to me = CHANGE so I chose the song "Change" by Blind Melon. If you are too young to know who Blind Melon is than I hate you.

I hope you enjoy it. A lot of hard work went into getting these photos and I want to thank all the RIDERS: Anto Chamberland, Aaron Biittner, Devun Walsh, Iikka Backstrom, Lauri Heiskari, Ryan Tiene, Jody Wachniak, Torstein Horgmo, Logan Haubrich. Also thanks to Nick Olsen, Brian Thompson and Brian Cassaro.

Peace and happiness in 2013 y'all!

PS. You can watch my slideshows from 2010 and 2011 here as well

DC SNOW Ad Campaign

Colin Adair - Friday, December 14, 2012

Here a few samples of my photos from the 2012/2013 DC Snowboarding ad campaign. The ad season started with a series of ads to promote the new DC Snow movie "MUST BE NICE". It then transitioned into the more traditional action/rider and product photo mix. We shot all the studio photos in the spring and summer and all the action photos are from winter 2012. I think it's one of the strongest ad campaigns DC has done in years. Clean, simple and catches the right attitude.

KNOWmag - Collections

Colin Adair - Tuesday, December 11, 2012

This summer I was once again asked to shoot a series of photos for an article in KNOWmag. We all know someone who collects things or who is a borderline hoarder and that was the basis for this article, to photograph various people and their collections. After some research and phone calls we found some friends who were willing to showcase their prized possessions. For the most part this meant going to their residences and arranging a shot that worked in the allowable space. I worked with art director Dan Curtis on this shoot who I've collaborated with on a few shoots over the past couple of years.

F as in Friday

Colin Adair - Friday, December 07, 2012

You may have seen this video already but if not have a look, it's well worth it. A friend of mine just told me about it and I'm pretty blown away. I've worked on a lot of shoots with professional athletes and their skill level and ability to execute under pressure never ceases to amaze me. This video takes that skill and tests it on another level.

This is the behind the scenes video of how it was made if you need to solve the mystery.

Slacker

Colin Adair - Friday, November 16, 2012

Summer is over. Waaaaaay over. No excuses for the long gap since my last post. Fall is in full force. Winter is starting to throw it's weight around. Hopefully it will be a whizz banger of a season.

Here's a few things that have happened lately just to get this ball rolling:

I've been posting a lot of stuff on instagram which is part of the reason the blog has suffered. Poor little blog. Boo fucking hoo. Anyway, follow me for lots of new photos: @colinadair

Next up is the DC Snowboarding movie MUST BE NICE which was released last month. Check it out on iTunes. Its a good time. There is also a interview with me on PUSH.ca and some behind the scenes photos about making and shooting the movie last winter.

Another interview I did for Snowboarder Magazine is up on their site now. This is part of their Lens Crafters series and is more of a general overview about my photography, life and beard.

And last but certainly not least is the new issue or Later. mag is now out. It's another step forward in what will hopefully a long strange journey. It's available in shops and retailers across Canada as well as up and down both coasts of the US of A. A full list of where you can find it will be on the site anyday. It will also be available at most Chapters/Indigo stores starting next week. Or you can subscribe online and have it delivered to your door.

Great minds think alike........is 'alike' even a word?

Colin Adair - Sunday, April 22, 2012

That's a bit of a claim. Ok it's a huge claim. Let's just say then, that there are certain people that think certain ways and often times those ways of thinking overlap.

For example, two photos below:

copyright Danny Zapalac

copyright Colin Adair

So now you see my point. Two photos by two unrelated people shot around the same timeframe in totally different places. This is why I love photography and the internet. Multiple interpretations of the same scene at different times and places, found in one place at the same time.

I came across this photo by Danny Zapalac (who you should definitely follow) this morning and it immediately reminded me of my own photo which I shot on New Years eve 2011 with my iPhone 4s. I have been wanting to post my photo for a while and totally forgot about it until now. And finally a reason to post it and finally a new blog post.

A secondary but equally good reason for this post is to introduce you to "the doctor" as he called himself the first time I ever spoke to him on the phone about 10 years ago. He was shooting snowboarding and I was photo editor at Snowboard Canada Magazine. I loved his photos and he had a very unique and different style. He still shoots a bit of snowboarding today but his work is mostly commercial now. He loves film and his style has progressed even further. Check him out.

Pemberton

Colin Adair - Thursday, March 29, 2012

Seems like Instagram and Tumblr have divided my attention away from the ol' blog but I'll get back to more regular posts once the busy winter shooting season is over.

Pemberton is a small town north of Whistler that is surrounded by lush farmland and big mountains. We spend a lot of time shooting around that area all winter and it's a really unique place.

Here's a few shots from the Hasselblad I took a while back............

DC SNOW Catalog 2013

Colin Adair - Thursday, February 16, 2012

Has it been a month since my last confession.......I mean post...........apologies, 'tis the season of busy-ness and travel and mayhem.

Well, the snowboard tradeshows are wrapped up, the 2013 products have been released and shown to the world. In August of 2011 I went to New Zealand to shoot the 2013 product catalog with the DC Snowboard team. We shot the photos over the course of 10 days in the southern hemisphere. It was a really busy shoot for me. Everything from on hill action to studio product photos. Most of what you see below are photos we conceived prior to heading to NZ. We based many shots around the graphics for the pro model boards. Donkeys, DJ's, Gorillas,Helicopters and Beers........oh my!

New Zealand is an amazing and beautiful place. Special thanks go out to NZ DC rep Hamish Caunter and DC Snow art director Brian Thompson.
